1: No poverty

Sustainable Development Goal 1 is about ending poverty in all its forms everywhere. Learn how a McMaster business professor is helping.

Catherine Connelly, Professor, Human Resources & Management

A fair chance at fair work: Reducing poverty by supporting vulnerable employees

People with disabilities are among the world’s most marginalized groupsfacing worse health outcomes, lower education, and barriers to gaining employment. They’re also more likely to be poor.

Catherine Connelly’s work tackles SDG 1 by shedding light on the challenges faced by vulnerable workers — those with disabilities, temporary workers, and people in precarious or gig economy jobs who are often impacted during times of economic change.

As the Canada Research Chair in Organizational Behaviour, Connelly has found that many employers are lagging in their attempts to create an inclusive environment. People with disabilities continue to face prejudice, and it’s impacting their income potential. But Connelly says it doesn’t have to be this way.
