No one left behind: Promoting and protecting global human rights
Growing up in Nigeria under a military dictatorship, Bonny Ibhawoh learned firsthand that human rights are often a casualty of conflict, and it sparked his interest in learning more. Today, he’s the director of the Centre for Human Rights and Restorative Justice at McMaster. He’s tackling systemic inequalities and human rights violations globally. And he’s been appointed by the UN to monitor human rights around the world.
Reducing inequalities, Ibhawoh says, is foundational to all of the Sustainable Development Goals – from poverty to climate change – so SDG 10 is central to his work.
He believes that for human rights research to be worthwhile, it must be directly linked to practice and have a positive impact on people’s daily lives.
