Goal 5: Gender Equality

Everything cancer biologist Juliet Daniel does is part of her drive to help and to empower people whose health and concerns have been marginalized. Here’s how she’s helping achieve SDG 5 —gender equality and empowering girls and women. |

Triple threat
Triple negative breast cancer is aggressive and hard to treat, and disproportionately targets Black and Hispanic women, populations who typically have less access to treatment and diagnostics. And yet there’s little research on it and hardly any education or support for those who have it.
Juliet Daniel is working on addressing all three of those things.
She not only leads a lab that is studying a potential genetic link between TNBC and Black and Hispanic women, she’s also an outspoken advocate for more diverse research on matters that affect women of colour. And she’s working with community organizations to create support for women who have this deadly cancer.
